The Youth bus is a purpose built single decker youth bus. The bus was designed by young people as part of the Braunstone New Deal for Communities programme. The outreach service was originally put in place to facilitate organizations that did not have a base in Braunstone, the opportunity to deliver from the bus, this however, never took off and the bus has been used as a mobile youth provision.
The bus has three areas, which are the group work/chill out area, the IT suite/studio and the consultation area and driving cab. These area’s can be used to deliver and facilitate many different types of activities. The bus currently has provision to deliver sound engineering and Djing workshops using industry standard equipment. The bus is also equipped with the latest games consoles, board and card games, computers, laptops, printers, projectors and an extensive range of sports equipment.
The youth bus has been what has made Streetvibe such a unique service and gives its unique competitive advantage, as it goes to the areas where the young people are at and if they move so does the bus. The youth bus has been used for several different types of consultation events, using both conventional methods such as pen and paper and also the latest computer generated technology.
The idea about having a Streetvibe Youth van came from a group of young people who lived in a small housing estate, where there was not enough space to have the youth bus deliver its services. The group worked with youth workers and the Braunstone youth panel and put several funding bids together to purchase a second hand long wheel based Iveco van. Initially the van was used as it was without any internal renovations. Streetvibe have had to wait nearly 18 months before the van could be converted (raising the funds through profits made from their work and reinvesting), the youth van came into full use in January 2010.
The youth van can deliver everything that the youth bus does, except on a much smaller scale and without attracting so much attention.
